The Jewish News of Greater Phoenix reports that Rabbi Yosef Garcia will be giving a lecture titled “Crypto Jews/Hispanic Sefardi: The Hidden Jews Among Us,” at 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday, March 23, at the Cutler-Plotkin Jewish Heritage Center, 122 E. Culver St., Phoenix. Rabbi Garcia was in serious accident last year and has been recovering.

Rabbi Garcia has been actively involved with Anusim for decades and has been a pioneer in the area of Crypto-Judaism. He received extensive support from Rabbi Joshua Stampfer, a former professor at the Spertus Institute of Jewish Studies. He also received ordination from Reb Zalman Schachter-Shalomi, the founder of the Jewish Renewal movement. I had the pleasure of meeting Rabbi Garcia approximately four years ago while visiting the Phoenix area.
